Technical SMS Specifications and Checklist

To get started using SMS at your institution, there are several key steps that need to be followed to get the module up and running successfully.

Start-up Checklist for Enabling SMS:

  1. Email Millennium Customer Support to get the ball rolling. Let us know that you're interested in using SMS at your institution and we will get an account set-up for you.

  2. Millennium will also provide you with your first 10 Numbers for SMS use and initial testing. This is intended as a starting point only.

  3. Discuss certain system-generated Configuration Settings; most of these are not front-end facing so need to be set-up before getting started.

  4. Buy additional numbers that can be allotted to and distributed amongst the FAST applications that wish to take advantage of SMS.

  5. Assign those numbers to FAST applications or you may opt to leave them unallocated and allow your user groups to pull the numbers as needed.

  6. Create one or more Pools for your FAST applications.

  7. Add one or more numbers to your Pools so that SMS can be enabled at the Pool level.

  8. Discuss and establish internal guidelines and business rules around the use of SMS as a communication tool at the department level

  9. Train your administrators and end users on how to Send SMS, Include report values, Add SMS to custom pages and more! For training, email us for information on pricing and availability.
